Andrej Zwitter is Professor of Human Sciences in the Digital Age and Director of the AIM – University Center for [Human and Data] Sciences at Universität Klagenfurt, Austria. Before that, Zwitter was Professor for Political Theory and Governance at the University of Groningen, where he was a co-founder and former dean of the inter- and transdisciplinary branch Faculty Campus Fryslân.
In addition, Prof. Zwitter was the founding Director of the Data Research Center (2017), the Cyan Center on Climate Adaptation (2020), and the Center on Innovation Technology and Ethics (2024). Furthermore, Zwitter was founding board member of Chapter Zero Netherlands, an initiative of the World Economic Forum. He currently serves as Ethics Advisor to the EU Green Deal Data Spaces.
Andrej earned his PhD in Law, Legal Philosophy, and International Law at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz, Austria. He spent visiting professorships at Osaka University, Columbia University, and Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta.
His research foci include Data and Technology Governance, International Humanitarian Action, and State of Emergency Politics. Andrej has also published extensively on subjects such as just war theory and meta-science in the domain of philosophy of science. He is passionate about understanding how modern technology affects society and the human, and how it can contribute to solving global challenges.
